Default '98 a/c not working

Hi all...

My 98 SLT a/c died, it is blowing hot air. My friend (a mechaninc) added freon about 3 weeks ago, it worked for a good week, so we assumed it was out of freon. However it started to blow hot again. He put some type of stop leak in it, blew cool when they tested it, figured it would get by until he couyld order a compressor. The next day I turned my defrost on early morning, I didn't turn the a/c on as it was cool out (shocker in south florida in Oct.) later that evening I went out and the a/c was blowing warm - I then noticed my inside windshield was dirty - I think the stop leak stuff blew inside the vents. The rear a/c is also blowing warm. Not really sure it is the compressor , so I have not had him install it yet.... Any idea??

Default RE: '98 a/c not working

I had a problem similar to yours, it would work off and on. After having the system serviced it still did the same until I had replaced the expansion valve (2000 Durango) and it has been working since.
Let me know what you find out.
