Default power steering pump leak

Ok, I just replaced both power steering pump hoses on my 2000 D. When my wife backed out of the garage the other day, I saw another puddle under the D, turns out it is power steering fluid. I have been a field mechanic/tech for the last 20 yrs so i know not to overtighten o-rings, etc. when working on pumps etc....butI amhuman so i crawled under just to see if I goofed up a connection....all fittings and connections are dry with no leaks....it appears to be coming from behind the bracket. Has anyone else had the seals on the shaft fail? It seems like that is all that is left. Any input here would be nice before I pull the pump out and replace it...

I have the same problem w/ my 2000 D. Took it to the stealership about 5-6 months ago for the ball joint recall, and they said I had a power steering cooler problem. I got the whole unit changed, and the SOB still leaks. I'm not about to throw parts at it, but it just looks like crap when you look under it and see all the oil all over the place. I think on mine it is coming from the actual steering pump line sets, as they look all chewed up. Let me know how yours turns out or if you have any new ideas, cause its annoying.

Mine is leaking at the rack where the steering shaft connects. I have found that thereare no replacement parts for this leak and I will have to change the whole rack. Lucky me.

I had the exact same leak. I was fine with just filling it up every month, untill the cv joint that connects the steering column to the rack seized then broke while my dad was driving. Stealership wanted either 1100 or 1800 bucks for the rack (cant remember, i just know that it was ****ING RIDICULOUS). My dad picked one up for 350$ aftermarket. Don't know the brand, but 5 months and its still holding strong.

I had changed my brother's ps pump on his ram with a 4.7 same leak 3x kept returning the pump back to autozone. fyi if you change the ps pump buy a new pullley if you have the 4.7 the factory stamps the pulley on the shaft prior to assembly of the pump and you will most likely be unable to to reuse your original pulley without cracking the rear of the ps pump the tool for the installing the pulley will strip the threads the idiots who designed this made the threads to accept a 5/16 bolt. not the brightest design!
