Default New computer flash

well I finaly got the truck shutting offwith no bus showing problem, so I picked up a computer from the junkyard for$250 plus shipping now my problem is with the Dodge dealer its like they don't want to flash it because I didn't by it from them and I'm putting in the computer myself.I have called 3 times and have got 3 different prices and the amount of time it would take to do the flash was different, when I did my ford it only took the guy about 15min. and about 60 bucks to do it.What should this cost?I don't want to get ripped because I didn't buy a new computer from them.

just because it takes the tech 15 mins doesn't mean the tech should charge less. your paying for the tech experience and his tool bill! i wouldn't complain if it is under 100. but that just me and I have a very biased opinion.

I don't mind paying for work that is done!I mind being lied too, when I have already been told a price and the price was cheaper and the time was faster when the man thought he was going to be installing the part and then its going to take him an hour longer when he finds out that he is not going to get the labor for the parts swap.besides I fix PLC's for a living I know all about getting paid for what you know and for the cost of the tools but I have never tried to screw a customer to make a buck thats whats wrong with the auto business it seems like most of them work on the up charge system instead of just fixing whats wrong. My father has worked for Ford for 27 years and I have MUCH respect for the trade just not the ones who so openly lie......

now i understand what you are saying after your explanation. the stealerships mechanics make more when its a customer pay(out of warranty) so they charge for everything and then some markup on parts etc.if it's coveredby a warranty company or manufacturer we can only charge a flat rate and cannot charge for extra they will not pay for it (ex: a alternator for a durango to be replaced calls for 1.3hours book time, warranty time calls for .8)alot of shops are starting to charge extra labor for customer supplied parts because we lose the money from the sale of the part and make it up on labor charges.half the time the customer brings in the wrong parts anyway and its a nightmare trying to explain to them they bought a honda part for a dodge...lol
