ouch, finals till tuesday, glad mine are all done on friday, then its party time

its not something that needs adjusting or replacing, it just needs to be lubricated periodically, its on my yearly list of stuff to do as i prep the truck for the winter, i use a silicon based aresol lubricant, the same one i use to wipe down the door seals to stop them from freezing shut

slotracer, you should make your own thread, however your problem is likely the transmission range sensor, this thread is talking about the brake park interlock which is stopping the truck from being shifted out of park.

I didn't know the 2001 had such a thing. I can shift right into gear without touching the brakes on mine.

compact, i bet your truck is one of the ones covered by the shift interlock recall, i would get it fixed since in your case it can be bumped out of park and roll away if you dont there is supposed to be no way to get the truck out of park with out the key in the 'on' position and your foot on the brake, the other gears you can shift between fine without the brake tho.

With the key not in the on position the shifter won't go anywhere. I did put the vin # into some recall check thing and nothing came up, but I'll look into it some more and see if something is in need of a recall repair.

Default Stuck in PARK

I removed the gear shift rod cover (rubber boot and plastic surround the shifter) by pushing the front edge in and up to unclip it. Then looked for a square like button on top of the shifter rod assembly inside the steering column shifter hole. It sticks out about 1/4 inch long parallel with the shifter and is located on top of the shifter base. It just clicks in when you press it with your finger, then the shifter will work. Normally, this little square button clicks in automatically when first trying to shift out of park after the vehicle is started. I have not figured out how to fix it, but it does not stick in PARK every time.
