Default RE: Heater core question?

When I got quoted from dealer for a heater core replacement, I think they charged around $600-$800 for core and labor to tear down the dash and steering column. A reasonable price as the labor book demands alot of time for tear down and re-install.

Check with your dealer if their labor will be included with the 3yr/36k warranty of the part? If so, then it's worth it if the core goes out for whatever reason.

Luckily for me, I have a close friend that is a mechanic with his own shop and got it fixed for much less. I assisted him on the tear down so I witnessed first hand what was all involved to tear down and put back together. Not fun and would gladly pay the dealer to do it if my buddy could not.

Last recommendation, check your cooling system in general to make sure it is clean and free of debris. Don't want your new heater core to clog up and put you back to square one.

HOLLY S**T!

THE LOCAL DEALER TOLD ME $900.00 TO DO THE HEATER CORE REPLACEMENT. I THINK A MATCH AND A LITTLE GAS WOULD BE EASIER! THIS IS A 1998 NOT A 2008!

THIS SUX![:@]

Mine was the same, about 900-1000 to do the core, evap, and motor. Made my decision easy. I spent about 150 in parts.

i just replaced my core on wednesday. took me a little over 6 hrs to do the whole thing with my cousin. then again this wasnt even close to the first time ive removed a dash, which def helped. dealer near me wanted 1300, local mechanics wanted 600-800. i payed 120 in parts. patience is def key, haynes manual helped a bit but not much more than i already knew. good luck man
