Replacing Driver Side Half Axle
Hey Fellow Rango Rollers,
I need a little assitance replacing my drivers side axle, due to my CV Joint taking a crap on me.Ihave a 98' 5.2L SLT+.To my understanding, its a pretty easy fix, but I've never done it. I have repair knowledge, so I'm confident I can do it, just need a little guidance. Anybody have general instructions or pointers for me before I hit the ground runnin? I searched through some threads, but came up with nothing. Any help would be appreciate. RIDE HARD[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

dont forget 2 cotter pins (tie rod,cv) and hub socket at the store. heres a quicky for ya get abig breakerbar to gethub nut free ,tire off, " first two steps may be reversed due to style of rim" brake assembly off "pads, rotor, caliper", tie rod end, bottom shock bolt, cv bolts, break free cv from diff. slide that end out first past the shock it will be a little tricky. and wiggle the hell outa it or some love taps to get it out of the hub. REPEAT bassackwards got pretty good at them from my last 4x4 s-10
I found lossening the wheel bearing nut before you jack up the truck and take off the wheel is the best way to loosen it. They are on there like glue. Remove the tie rod end and I pulled mine right out without removing the shock. You do have to wiggle it around a little bit but it comes out. You have to remove the brakes as well as the rotor. It's very easy but a job in it's self. You shouldn't have any problems but if you do call on us.
over in the 2nd gen dakota forum there is a link to download a manual for a 2001 dak... the front end should be the same and you can use that as a reference. Somewhere here in the Durango forum there was a link to a Durango manual... not sure where it is but we should link it in the top of the forum.
