Default Harsh Braking

[align=left] My 99 Durango 4x2, has very sensitive brakes at the rear, I can say, that the Right Rear wheel locks up, I have changed the brake valves, the rear brake lining, No ABS or Brake light is on (but the are working at the start of the car). This only appears to happen at very slow speed, when I press the brakes slightly It makes a hard stop sometimes it locks up and screeches.Any Help would be Great.

I had mine doing the same thing about a month ago. I pulled the rear hub, power washed the crap out of em, and sprayed em down with brake cleaner. The piston was acting up, and the adjuster was seized. Check that out - it only take 20 mins.

As for valve replacement, what exactly did you do? Was the system bled ? Was the drum replaced when you did the pads?

I remember seeing a thread on this well over a year ago... but I can't find it in the search...Somebody was having lockup issues, to the point where it was destroying his tires... this was on hot sticky pavement too... maybe somebody else remembers more than I do

Here is an old thread from the Dak boards, itmay be likewhat you are experiencing...https://dodgeforum.com/m_763273/tm.htm

Yes, We Bleed the system, turned the rear drums, new rear shoes, every thing looks clean. What next?

sorry Ray but I don't know...

did you check if your wheel cylinder is still in adjustment? I don't know how to do that...

give it a couple days, otherwise ask in the 2nd gen dak section...

Ray, miles?????????

Since you say they both are brand new thats leaves me with 2 things left. The pistons, as mentioned before by othersand the ABS system. A quick way to rule out the abs is to find a "safe" area with gravel/dirt/ or mud to lock the tiresup on. If your abs initiates, have the rear hydraulics rebuilt aswell adjusters.. (both sides)

OK.....we Fixed the problem, after Brainstorming all of the brake system, We even had the pressure measured (Frt. 1200 psi, Rr 900 psi). All was Ok, only thing I had left to do was to change again the rear Brake Shoes (they cracked because of the rear drums locking all the time). This time I bought Bendix # R723. When we went to install them we noticed that the front shoe lining was way shorter than the set I had installed before (first set was not bendix Brand). So that was it, a poor quality part, that made us go crazy. Thanks for your help.
