Durango ball joints
I have no pictures availible, should be similar, but all you need is the (REPAIR MANUAL), ball joint press, pickle fork, spindle nut socket, and torque wrench in addition to basic mechanic tools to do the job. If the BJ's are stock they may require that you drill out the rivets. I highly recomend doing your tie rod ends aswell in the process that is so later on you wont need to get the truck aligned twice. Even though their price is high, i recomend greasable MOOG ball joints for replacement. Well worth the extra $$ in the long run. (All tools and parts are availible at you local parts store for rental, MOOG's might run you $50. a pop, but $50 a pop will save you from replacing them 30k down the road and paying for another alignment....)
If the miles are up on the Bj's and they have not been replaced they may require a little heat as well the press.

Sorry for the slow response, running back and forth from work. If you have any local autozone nearby or other large auto parts store they should have that to rent aswell any other major tools needed. (Not really rent, just a deposit that you get back after returning, so pretty much free) The bottom bj's should be pressed in by factory if not aftermarket, so the press ( most kits ) actually removes and installs the bj's.
Another note * if you do take my recomendation for MOOG joints try not to seek a cheaper deal online, unless the business is a reputable auto parts/repair dealer. There has been numerous accounts of low class sellers (ebay, quick buck shops, etc) selling the poor quality seconds.
* If you think the MOOG's are just too much for your budget try the next step down by going to napa, decent stuff, just make sure it can be greased.

i have a 98 durango 4x4 with a 5.9l .. im getting ready to replace a wheel bearing, both inner tie rod ends, and a lower ball joint in order to pass state inspection.. i have a press but do you recomend renting and using a BJ press so i can press the BJ in while the control arms are still on the truck? or should i just pull the control arm and do it that way?
Well tech, the ball joint press im speaking of really isnt a press youd be familiar with on a bench. It looks exactly like a C clamp and the ends for either assembly or removal. http://www.autozone.com/in_our_store...oint_press.htm
only reason i see removing the control arm is bushing or the control arm itself replacement.
