Default transmission help

I just got my Durango (1999 5.2) really cheap and when I bought it the trans fluid was really bad. after I drove it for about 300 miles off and on I couldn’t go more than 10 min. with out the trans temp sensor coming on. So I dropped the pan and replaced the filter but now it is shifting funny. I will be ok for the first min. but after a while it wont shift out of second or it will take till I get to 4000 rpms. the weird thing is if I get going and it wont shift out of second if I put it in neutral and then back to drive it will shift fine.

Hate to tell you but I had the same trouble with mine and it ended up being a total rebuild for $1400. Good luck

$1400 is cheap. Tranny from the Fastman is $1850 plus $700 core and $250 shipping and then pay shop to put it in. (Shop quoted me $450 for installation.)

I am going this route instead of just having someone rebuild it locally because I feel this way I know that I am getting a quality tranny and I won't have to do it again.

Dan the fastman will treat you good. He did me good even tho I had to wait quite a while to get my tranny from him. He basically has a partner that does the tranny builds as Dan mainly do the throttlebody work.

So far, I am happy with the tranny. However, I need to find out why the my D is kicking hard randomly when coasting to a stop. It may be my transfer case. Basically when coasting to a near stop, I would say around 10 mph, the tranny and/or transfer case would disengage I guess just before the D comes to a complete stop. with the OEM tranny, I can feel the tranny/transfer case changing gear or dis-engaging the gear before the complete stop and it never kicked or bucked at me. But since the tranny replacement, it would kick hard to disengage. Makes a clang similar to the same noise when putting your AWD durango from park to reverse. But it does this only once in a while, not consistent. May need to take it in to the dealer to do a quick check to make sure all the adjustments are set correctly.
