CB Radio
yeah i was the same way... it took me 3 days 2 figur out where to put the radio... then i figered sence i dont smoke and there is no smokeing aloud in my truck and i have plenty of other power outlets that i would put it there... and the fact that the ask tray kept falling down evertime i hit a bump pissed me off.... and i can still fit a soad can in the passenger side cup holder...so all and all that was the best place.. and its not to far away to reach to adjust the *****
OK, so the installation went great; got everything in, up, running, and tuned. Then, the radio took a dump. So, it is now on it's way back to the manufacturer. Just my luck. Spend money on new stuff, and then spend more to send it back to be repaired/replaced.
In other news, the antenna looks great, and makes a nice woooshing sound when the truck gets around 35mph and over. I wasn't really expecting much in the way of noise from that, even with me being tuned out to the significant amount of wind noise that the durango generates anyway.

Now I'm not dissin CB's but I think I just got dumped off in Red Neck Country.
Now I like them and even have an extreme strait up BAD *** radio that’s fully tuned and pushing 49 watts. I've smoked a lot of radio's just by keying them. (Yes they even roll in smoke as they fry)
But I don't have it installed because I just don't like the look on the D's.

It's an OK look, and I'll get pics up as soon as I can get a replacement unit in there. I made sure I got one that matched the interior as closely as I could get it (black). So, the appearance flows nicely, and it doesn't visually jump out quite as quick as other radios, but yes, it's there. If it didn't require constant tweaking, I'd just put it inside of the center console or under a seat or something.
I spent a lot of time trying to figure a place to put it, but unfortunately it just came down to putting it where it made the most sense. It'll provide some nice entertainment while on the road a lot. Plus it helps ease how sick I am of FM, CD's, and cell phones.
I'm probably the type individual who is just about as far away from any of the stereotypes you would possibly associate with the use of CB's. I'll admit that the CB has seen its heyday, but I don't think the technology is totally useless either.

Im more interested in everyones Antenna settups. I have my CB mounted just to the right of my power outlet on my "03 Its all black and doesnt jump out, Ive had alot of people tell me it looks like it should be factory.
I have not yet installed my cb in my Durango. I think hubby bought me a galaxy, but I can't remember. We have not yet decided where to install the antenna. Wilsons are my fave, but they can damage the paint when they get to swooshing depending on where I mount it. I'm thinking about a more expensive fiberglass antenea professionally installed. We are going to mount the radio itself in the console. We don't use it for much so we figured it'd be perfect and it will not take up much space.

My antenna is a 4' black FireStick that is mounted on the passenger side of the truck right next to the AM/FM antenna. It uses a mount made specifically for the Durango, utilizing a main fender/body bolt under the hood . It's a very clean look, which is minimally invasive on the exterior, and gets great reception (although this could be improved even more by placing it smack dab in the middle of the roof, but that's not 100% practical for me). Being a more rigid fiberglass antenna, it stays nearly vertical while the truck is driving at highway speeds.
The only 'drawbacks' that I can come up with are 1) being right next to the AM/FM antenna, they can, on occasion, knock into one another if the truck really bounces around. I'm going to rectify this by getting a shorter AM/FM antenna. 2) being rigid (for the best reception), it can produce some noticeable wind noise.
Other than that, it looks great and functions perfectly. Installation was a snap. I just ran the wire down next to the factory AM/FM antenna wire and came into the passenger compartment through the same grommet. Pics coming soon.

You can find the mount in many different places. I found mine through Walcott CB. I just used them because I could find all of the parts I needed for the system (radio, antenna, antenna mount, SWR meter, antenna cable, etc).
The mount itself is made by FireStick. It's made for the Dodge Ram/Dakota/Durango, since the models have the same front ends. They have two different versions of the mount: an 1994-2003 version, and a 2004+ version. They even sell them as a kit, so you can get the antenna mount and the cable to run into the radio.
