Default Steering Controls/Buttons

The controls and horn on my 99 D don't work at all. Theywould work at times and noat otherstill one day they stopped. Do I need to replace the whole steering column or is there a way to fix the radio controls and horn? Appreciate any help.

Sounds like you need a new clock spring.

Can't seem to find any instructions on how to remove the spring clock. Thinking of doing the work myself or is it one of those where I need to take my D in for service? Can a regular mechanic shop do this type of work or is it a stealer thing?

Just ask the shop if it's something they can do. You don't want them messing it up and you having to also replace your airbag.

replacing the clock spring on the steering wheel requires removal of the air bag and possibly steering wheel. So if you don't have the proper tools to remove at least the airbag as it can be expensive to replace if you messed it up, take it to your reputable dealer to replace the clock spring.
