Hey guys. I don't think my electric fan is coming on. I put a little white out on one of the blades to see if it's been moving, tested it with the AC on, no movement(the AC don't work anyway). It hasn't gotten anywhere near overheated. Am I to understand that driving without a functioning electric fan in the winter time isn't the worst thing in the world? Should I be in a BIG hurry to fix the fan?

the electric fan only runs when the a/c is on or when the engine overheats, otherwise it doesnt run, so you will be perfectly fine except in the hottest summer days when sitting in traffic

A sudden noise level increase? I haven't read the entire thread (my apologies), but has anyone suggested it might be an exhaust leak? Exhaust pipes crack all the time (I have two sitting in my yard that I need to weld up that prove this) and if it's a slight crack, it can be a little hard to tell exactly what it is at first. I can't think of anything else that would cause a sudden noise increase that wouldn't affect the performance in some way.

Greasy<---- Replace the fan or check connections. Don't let that motor get hot! Get if fixed ASAP.

Roller<---- If it goes away after about a few blocks on cold start then it is acting fine, but if it is locked up all the time then replace the clutch.

I use the block heater during the day, so when after work when I leave I am at 140ish...so by the time I get home(4 miles) I am all warmed up and it still sounds like a 747. When you turn the fan should it spin freely with the engine off? Mine turns mabey a 1/4 turn then stops, feels like it is tight.

yours sounds correct to me, any more than 1/2 a turn is too much and if it doesnt spin at all once you let go of it its siezed but yours sounds to be about right, (maybe just a hair loose, but not enough to worry about)

1/4 turn is about what I get with mine, and it ROARS, but I do know for a fact that mine came with the HD service package, so it has the heavy duty fan clutch.

I think you need to replace the clutch fan personally. When cold it should only stay on for a few blocks if anything. There is 2 fans to chose from when you go to the store. There is a heavy duty, and standard.

The difference is the heavy duty will stay on longer and is really meant for people that tow a lot and is for heavy duty use, not the fact of it being the cooling package or not. A standard will do just fine in your rig if you use it under normal conditions and towing and such.
