I have a 2001 Durango. Engine light goes on and it says P0551. From reading this board I am guessing it is the Power Steering Sensor. Is this fixable with out going to the dealer.

 

Ya, just go to your local parts store and buy the part. Its like 40 or 50 bucks, and the pressure sensor is located on the pipe from the power steering resevoir. Be careful when taking it off not to bend the pipe.

What would cause it that I would have to replace the part?

Also, is the truck safe to still drive to work? About a 6 minute drive each way. I'm planning on changing out the part this weekend.

Does anyone have a step by step instructions on changing this?
