98 Durango Keyless Entry?
Why does the keyless entry programming for the 98 Durango have to be done at a dealer? I was quoted $50 to have it done. Do they have to reprogram the vehicles computer or something?
Thanks

On my 99 you can program a new fob yourself if you have one that is already programmed.
As for programming the first key fob, the only way to do it is with a DRBIII scan tool (the dealer tool). That said, the procedure is very very easy-- takes 5 minutes if you include the time for the tech to grab the DRBIII and walk out to your car. Call around, some might do it for free or at a lower price, especially if you buy the fob from them.
I don't mean to say it's unreasonable for them to charge for this kind of thing-- after all they did buy the tool which sells for $6000. Just the same, there's little "cost added" for doing this kind of thing, so if you call around you might get a better price.

There is a website that sells the oem alarm key modules. From there, some year model durangos, can be programmed yourself, but that is only newer models such as the 01-03 I think. 98-99 I think can only be done from dealer (maybe it is the DRBII rick mentioned), cannot remember the 2000 model.
