Default 99 Durango blower problems

Okay - I just need help. Sometimes when I start my Durango, the heater blower, if it is set on high, sounds like it's on low. Sometimes it sounds like it surges and kicks on and off, like it is sputtering. There is warm air coming out of the vents, just not blowing like it should. Sometimes there is just no blowing at all. If it's set on a lower speed it doesn't blow at all. I have survived the winter being cold, but it's really hard to keep the windows clear! Any help would be SO appreciated!

JVW,

Welcome to the forums. I would call your local dodge dealer to see if there is a blower resistor for a 99 model. We rarely had any users posting concerns over their blower fan speed issues for 98-00 models. It may be possible these models do not have a resistor. The 01-03's have resistors in them and also, the 01-03 have 2nd generation interiors that is different from the 98-00 models.

If it uses a resistor, then you can go to our FAQ message thread and read up on the blower fan issues and you will find the info you need on how to replace it and what to look for.

I called the dealer. The blower resistor # is 55055467ab. It's the one in the firewall under the hood. I have been having trouble getting one as they are on backorder everywhere I have checked. I'm just curious if there was anything else to try while I wait for the part - HOPING that that the resistor is the problem! Thanks!

Hi JVW,
If you're still looking for that resistor, try oemdodgeparts.com. Got one from them last week for $8.17 + freight. What a differant it made. I only use the second setting now.

Aloha,

ok I found it. I replaced the resistor one from carquest and its working now. My next problem is that I have now air coming from the rear vents at all. I cant hear any fan coming on either when I turn the rear heat fan on. is there another blower?
