Default Ignition problems

I have a 99 Durango with a 5.9. A couple months ago it just stopped running. It would turn over until the battery dies, but it wouldn't start. I pulled one of the plugs, and it looked all carboned up, like it wasn't firing. I slipped it back in the boot, and while holding the gnd electrode against the manifold, I had a friend crank it. There was no spark. The cap and rotor are less than 6 mos old, so I figured they were okay.To start easy I pulled the coild and ohmed across the primary. It read dead short. I got a new coild and put it on, and the truck started and ran well for about 15-20 minutes. Then it just died, and wouldn't start, just like before. I ohmed the coil primary again, and it was a dead short again. It looks like something is taking out the coil.

Can anyone give me some ideas were to look? Could the ignition system supplying the voltage to the coil be over supplying and killing it?

I did a search, and got a bunch of stuff about the suspension coils, but ...

Thanks in advance.

Could be bad wires grounding. I would first go get some OEM wires and some good old REGULAR Champion OEM plugs.

Also better get a new coil.

Can you give me an idea of what the coil resistance should be on a new coil?

Is there a way to check the distributor pickup coil?

1 ohm between the primary wire conectors.

12 - 15K ohms between the primary wire and the high tention lead.

DRB II SCAN is needed for checking the pickup sensor-crank case sensor.

Someone told me that the crankcase sensor (that is the one in the bell housing, right?) just don't go bad. Is that true?
