New to the board here. I have a 1998 Durango SLT 5.2L that I just got. It's in great condition, almost 80K miles. I don't know if this is a problem or just a normal thing, but when I turn the ignition to the ON positino where the battery and electrical things turn on, I hear a strange moaning/rattling noise towards the front left of the vehicle. It lasts for about a second, and I can hear it do it again after I start the engine.</P>


The engine runs just fine and everything seems to be ok, so I'm not sure if I should get this checked out. Does anyone know what it might be?</P>

 

A humming or moaning sound could be a fuel pump, but that would come from behind at the gas tank and not up front. Try having someone turn the key on with the hood up and then you can get a better chance to listen and maybe pinpoint where and what it is.
