My durango has an eletrical problem, my dash and headlights flicker once in awhile. Does anyone know what this is?

 

I wonder if it could be a relay or a fuse on it's way out.

 

First I'll offer my 2 cents on your electrical problem, then I have a question for everyone else.

In my experience, "flickering"is caused by a circuit shorting, a loose wire - or wires, or a loose elctrical plug. If possible, try turning on your lights and replicating the problem by "jiggling" wires and wire harnesses. I know it's a rather arcane method - but sometimes you get lucky.

My question: I want to flush my radiator. I took my '03 durango to have the oil changed today and they offered to drain my radiator and refill for big wampum. I told them "No" and I went to the auto parts store and got a Prestone Flush 'n Fill kit. The problem is, I have absolutely no idea where to intall the Tee or which hose to cut. I have a 4.7L Magnum. Can anyone tell me where the heck you install this thing? I would be very greatful.

1) Make sure engine is cool, then loosen radiator cap to release any pressure and re-tighten cap. If radiator has no cap, loosen and re-tighten the pressure cap on the expansion tank, if so equipped. If it has a conventional recovery system (a non-pressurized plastic bottle) and no radiator cap accessibility, vent and reseal the system via the cap covering the thermostat.
2) Two heater hoses extend from the fire wall to the engine, in both front and rear wheel drive vehicles. Hose #1 runs from fire wall to water pump. Hose #2 runs from fire wall to top of engine. This is the heater inlet hose. Ask a qualified mechanic if uncertain.
3) TEE should be installed in a relatively straight section of the inlet hose, away from hot exhaust system. Cut heater inlet hose; install TEE that provides snug fit in heater inlet hose. Remaining TEES should be discarded. Check for leaks after installation.
4) Tighten hose clamps with screwdriver. Do not over tighten.

I just re-read those instructions and i would be carefull when your cutting that heater inlet hose make sure you cut it so you lose the least ammount of hose so you dont have to replace it.

 

Thank you very much for your reply - I was very suprised at how quickly I received a response!

My problem is that I just can't figure out which hose is the heater hose inlet. And some hoses are swedged on to aluminum tubing. On the drivers side of the engine, there is a hose that appears to be the heater inlet hose - but it has a wye in it (????). I tried to find a picture of my engine to insert but I couldn't find one. When my daughter comes home from school, I'l use her digital camera to snap some shots - maybe you could then point out the proper hose.

Again, I really appreciate your timely reply. In the meantime, it's back out to the garage for some clean-up and organization.
