Default also looking for a solution

I have the similar problem with 1999 durango. It started about 2 years ago with @90K, the transmission seemed to slip at highway speeds intermittently, engine rpm lifts about 100-300 RPM but truck doesn’t speed up. .
I only drive it occasionally now due to the fact that it sucks on gas and has another trans problem, shifting when cold ( i know what that problem is - flat seals until warm). The slipping started getting worse, happening almost all the time at highway speeds 55-70, cruise on and off.
I was ready to have the trans rebuilt to fix both problems since I am the original owner and the truck is in great shape otherwise.
I left it a trans shop for three days, (a place I trust), they found no codes but did experience the problem. They said there was nothing wrong with the trans, he seemed to think that the Torque Converter was going in and out of lockup and suggested some TSBs that recommend reflasing the PCM? module or computer.
I took it to the dealer and had the computer reflashed for $89, worth a shot instead of $1800 to rebuild. Dealer said if that doesn't work it could be TPS sensor (throttle position). I have seen other forums metioning TPS sensors or trans output sensors.
Well, first weekend i drove it about 300 miles with no slipping. The next weekend another 500 mile trip and it started slipping but not as bad and only with the cruise control engaged. So far it drives without slipping as long as not using the cruise. Might decide to live with it this way instead of throwing money at it, definitely not going to rebuild until I know what is causing this problem too.

Do the TPS modification but I would take the one you got back and get another one:

Throttle Position Sensor Modification for increased Performance. Scroll to TPS Modification:
http://bionicdodge.com/Download/Spee...d%20Tricks.pdf

Next you can replace the transmission output sensor if needed and it is located on the drivers side half way down on the transmission body as noted.

You could have a trany sevice done to replace the filter and fluid and band adjustment if equiped.

Any way you look at it reset the computer each step as seen here:
Engine Code Index (Check Engine Light?)

I just replaced the TPS on my durango after reading these posts. It did fix the rpm's surging. This has been going on for almost 2 years and just recently got worse. After much frustration with the dealership on this issue as well as the clockspring I just bought the parts and put them on myself...fixed the problem and saved some money too. I think the next one to go out will be the ABS sensor. It has come on a couple of times. Wondering what's next?

Nice to see you got it fixed up and Welcome to the forum!

Here is a manual in this thread. I think it's on page 4:

Rear ABS location and also the Speed sensor location:

Default update for highway slipping/surging

I replaced the TPS and so far it works great, about 40 bucks at autozone.
Drove it 500 miles last weekend, mostly on cruise, no slipping at all. Even improved the trans shift points, it's more responsive to throttle position.

Now STILL get the transmission serviced. Drop the pan, change out for a real Mopar filter, have the bands adjusted, refill and you are all set.
