Default Gas Light

Alright, I have a 98 Durango and this problem is getting to be a very big annoyance. Whenever you get below half a tank, when i go to stop the gas light comes on, gauge goes to empty, dings twice and goes back up, as the gas level decreases it does it more, bad float? Any suggestions on stuff to replace to get this problem solved cause im driving this beast to florida in a month and i do NOT wanna fill up at half a tank 10 times on the way down.
Thanks In Advance.

Sounds like the float or a bad connection at the pump. The only way to get to it is to drop the tank. The tank is plastic so just make sure you got a 1/4 tank or so.

Double check the connection. But with it only happening at 1/2 tank I bet it's the pump.

But hell, for the year you might just want to replace it anyway. Auto Zone sells them for about $180 but they do not stock them. So if you go to Checkers it is the same pump but they sell it for like $220 but they will match the price and they have it in stock.

Problem is that the filters (3), regulator, and pump are all on the same unit and it is in the tank. It isn't that hard to do it. Just rinse it out before install with fuel.

After your done with that, can you please come and do my d?2 yr old pump, but i cant stand taking chances, couple months back a freind borrowed theD. (Big mistake, although i loved driving around his turbo cummings) Come to find out at his place (Farm) he refueled the D after using it and the storage tank decided to be low. I could bet that when i drop the tank there will be some debris.[sm=outcold.gif]
