I have been reading a ton of posts about headlight problems on here. And there is some good info. But after some troubleshooting I still can't resolve the issue.
My headlights work on low beam only. The fog lights will not come on at all and if I pull the multi function switch to activate the high beams, ALL headlights go out. Now the high beam indicator comes on just not the high beamheadlights. Also, if I turn on my fogs, the high beam indicator comes on.
I used my haynes manual and checked the continuity of the multi function switch, checked the leadlight switch and the headlight relay. All of these are good. I seriously doubt that the problem is the bulbs. I was unable to locate the fuses that the manual shows after the headlights. But, in looking at the schematic, if those fuses had blown there would be no lights at all.
So, what else could it be?

 

Start simple. Go ahead and get a set of those Silverstar Ultra's and try replacing them. My wifes car blew both headlights at the same time once and I couldnt beleive it. Have you tried the fog lamps on with JUST the parking lights? But yea, try replacing the headlights first and keep the old bulbs incase their not bad. I promise you will like the Silverstars!

 

Yes, I have tried the fog light with only the park lights. The fog lights do not power up at all.
I will try replacing the bulbs as illogical as it sounds to me.

 

First not to be a bug, make model etc etc.

When you pull back for the highbeams does the indicator stay on or does it just click off? Most of the time it is the headlight/multifunction switch itself. Have you tried removing the harness connector at the multifunction and reseat it? Relays good? grounds all appropriate?Also did you check the wiring behind the headlight switch? The fog lights run off ground at the switch so checking for appropriate grounding @switch is most logical.

I have tried reseating the connector for the multifunction switch. I also happened to have a new light switch so I replaced it. Still no luck. When I pull the MF switch to the high beam position, the high beam indicator light stays on as though the high beams are on.

 

hey man try checking the stupid part.if the switch, fuse, and lamp are good checkthe connector to the lamp itself. im a theatrical lighting tech and i see it all the time. if the lamps not seated properly and is a little loose it will create little arc welds everytime it gets turned on. untill it busts apart or has so much carbon build up to where theres no connectionor starts melting the connector. make sure the connectors are clean. if not scratch the inside of the connector with a jewelers screwdriver untill you get a clean surface . get out your meter set it for dcv, find your ground and test your low and high beams if that still dont do it for you test your continuity between your light connector and your switch. you may have a break in the wire. and for the fog lights not working make sure your little "s" shaped metal piece is still on your switch inside the housing. it happened to my foglightsdrove me crazy, theres a detailed write up on here about that.

 

oh one more thing break out your meter agian and test the light itself before you buy another one. set it to ohm 20k unplug your wires to the light. the headlight socket will have a left pin a center pin thats raised slightly and a right pin. in this setting it doesnt matter what probe you use, polarity doesnt matter for continuity. test center and left then center and right you should get 0.00 for both sides thats a good bulb if you get OL shes busted.not positivebut L=low R=high or L=high R=low.you may have the same luck as durango03 where both your high beams **** a brick . good luck
