Default Water leaking into passanger side

I have water leaking into the cab on the passenger side. It seems to be coming in around some plastic under the dash which i believe is the heating/cooling tube. The problem only exists when it is raining, so somehow rain is leaking in from somewhere.also it seems that the only time water leaks is when I turn or accelerate/decelerate.

I had this same problem with my 98 jeep cherokee in the exact same spot and never figured out what it was. the water eventually ruined my carpet and rusted out my floor pan.

I need to figure this problem out quickly before my carpet is ruined like inmy jeep.

well it could be your heater core, but since you sat it only happens when it rains it could maybe be that the windshield is came unsealed at the bottom. or maybe a firewall grommet is leaking

it may be the heater core. It is definitely not the winshield. how should I figure out which one it is? rip the dash out?

Check the wetness of your carpet for signs of antifreeze. You should even be able to smell antifreeze if the puddle is wet enough. I seriously doubt it is theheater core. If the core was leaking, youwould have this problemall the time, doesn't matter if it rains or not.

Otherwise, it may be possible the leak is coming from the area around tube. Double check for seals broken, etc. You can get a garden hose and try to spray up from underneath the body and see if anything starts to leak in.

well it is definitely leaking from the top up under the dash, because i have seen it leak. its a slow drip. I jusrt threw baking soda all over the carpet and floor mat, but that will only last so long. it is supposed to rain today so maybe i can narrow it down

I know this tread is old, but I'm having this problem and I'm not finding any real answers. Did any of you that have this problem solve it? It's starting to smell like wet socks in my Durango. I pulled up the carpet and it's a swamp. Can't seem to tell where it's coming from. It's not anti-freeze as you can't smell that sweet maple syrup smell.

Anyone??
Thanks,
~Steve

Jeep Cherokees had a problem with the drain tube clogging up. You might want to check your drain tube, it is the tube that helps water drain out of the a/c, heater box when condensation builds up.

yup the a/c drain tends to cause problems, but idk why he would be using the A/C that much since it IS winter

Well I solved my leak I think. I pulled the passenger side kick panel off (noticed the screw at the very front going into the firewall was missing), pulled off the floor trim panel and pulled the carpet back. Then I had my son hold the carpet back and lay inside with a light. I then soaked the outside all over with the water hose. It turns out the screw that was missing forms a hole through the firewall that leaks in water.

After about 45 minutes with a hair dryer to dry it all out, I put some sealant around that hole and put a new screw back in with a rubber washer and metal washer. From what I can tell, that fixed the problem. I never could find the AC drain hose that was mentioned. If anyone has a picture or a clue where that is, I'd like to check that also.

As for running the AC in the winter, I generally have to run the defroster as all the moisture inside keeps fogging up the windshield (i.e. the AC does run a lot in the winter for me).

yea defrosters will run the A/C unfortunately, but most people i know (myself included) dont run them that often unless the windows are fogging up, hence my assumption (not thinking about all the water that was already INSIDE your truck, oops) that it wouldnt be used much
