Default 01 D SLT rpm issue, stays at 2000 rpms...along with a new whinning noise thats always there

I have a 2001 Durango SLT with 121k...about 2 days ago I noticed that there is a constant humming coming from the front..motor..tranny..fan..belt.. who knows. It does it all the time, and stays at about 2000 rpms unless i gun it or slam on the breaks...the humming sound is more like a whinning hum, its weird...if i press the gas it doesnt accelerate right away...?? HELP i have only had it for 4 months..its the replacement for my 01 blazer thats tranny died. please tell me its not happening to this one too????[:'(]

MD:

What engine do you have?? For the rpm/idlng issue you could have a dirty/defective TPS or IAC. They both mount to the throttle body under the air hat. The TPS is the cheaper of the 2, and at 121k it would be good to replace it anyway.

BTW, at 121k, you are right at a service interval for your tranny, t case, and front/rear axles. They should all get new fluids and as well as the tranny filter. Take a gander at your spark plugs as well. If they are very worn, a new set is in order.

Ditto with the cooling system, but I don't want to overload you on your first post Ha Ha........

The humming could be a fan clutch, water pump, serpentine belt, or belt tensioner or pulley.

A quick way to narrow it down a bit would be to remove the serp belt, and fire it up for a few seconds to see if the noise is still present. Don't run it for long though as you will not have an active water pump.
