Default overheating

We have a 2000 Durango SLT 4x4 4.7 L. It has about 125,000 miles. It starts to overheat when driving in townwith the AC on, if the AC isn't on it is fine. If you are driving on the highway it is fine. Any help you could give would be appreciated!!

Spector,

Welcome to the forums.

My best guess is for you to check the clutch fan. With the engine off and the engine bay cool, try spinning the fan with your hand. If it makes a complete turn a couple of times, this is an indication that the clutch has gone bad. Otherwise, a good fan clutch will only move about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn when you try to free spin it by hand.
