2002 Durango Underbody Refrigerant Lines
I was told last night that the underbody refrigerant lines need to be replaced, then my A/C System recharged... to the tune of $1300 Canadian. The Durango only has 93,749 KM's and my local Chrysler dealer claims there are no warranties, TSB's etc.. so basically no help from Chrysler at all.. I think $550 for parts and $500 for labour (5.2 hours) plus applicable taxes is excessive..
So my questions;
Is this a known problem on Durango's ? Anyone know of any hidden warranties or TSB's I could utilize to my advantage ? Any other advice ?
Thanks in advance,
Stephen

That's interesting...I just had those changed on my 2002 Durango. I have 114,000 km on mine (I'm Cdn.). I was lucky as I have the extended warranty on mine which covers AC lines/hoses. I was told it would have cost $1000 so $1300 seems high. The reason is that the body has to be pulled from the frame to snake those lines through. It is quite a task. The only advice I can give (and this assumes you have a good relationship with the dealership) is to ask for a discount. I know on the few times I've had to have non-warranty work done they've obliged me to the tune of 10-15% (or more). You'll notice there are a couple of prices...retail and net. Hopefully, you can get the net price for parts with a break on labour. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
I'm in the Toronto area - so Cdn also...
I too had extended warranty etc, however, they ran out in 2007 - after 5 years, but as I only have 93K, km's on the truck, I'm still below the 100K Warranty mark - but, 5 years arrived first.. as for the cost, the estimate including all taxes, parts etc from my local Chrysler dealer is as I stated. I'm currently negotiating with Chrysler Canada to see if there is any form of 'relief' they can offer.
Other than yourself and me...I can't find anything or anyone else who has had this work done, so I guess it's not a common occurance.
Thanks for the feedback
