You should just have to disconect the motor mounts and lift the motor if it is a 5.9L or 5.2L enough to remove the pan. You will need to remove the skid plates if equipted.

im not quite sure on a 98 with a 5.2 or 5.9 but it was a real pain on my '02 with a 4.7L. i couldnt get enough clearance between the pan and the fron axle with just the motor mounds disconnected, i also had to disconnect the tranny mount. lol. so glad i already had the 3" body lift on it. other wise not sure if it would have cleared without yanking the motor lose.

You have to remove the front axel and mounts up the &*$%^&*

Your better off pulling the motor.
