Buying a 98 Durango
Well my friends dad is selling his 1998 Durango 4x4. Its got the 5.2 in it. The truck has a little under 120K on it...the transmission has only 10,000 miles on it since the rebuild and it has 2 year old BFG All terrians. He has done a few other repairs to it but my friend couldnt remember what. I know its been well cared for its entire life and was never beat on. Now he will sell it to me for $5000....sound good?
What kind of common problems could I run into in the near future? Rumor is the balljoints tend to go (I dont know if these have been replaced) but I'm sure I could pick those up myself and press them in. Anything else? I want something reliable and that will last for at least a few years more. 4x4 is a plus in the snow too.
Glad I stumbled upon this forum....I've already found a lot of useful info.

Sounds comparable to my D. I've replaced ball joints and tie rods. You should buy it, it will take good care of you especially with that newer tranny.
If you want some pointers on the ball joints shoot me an email as I've done them on my truck. smcnally@hollandhart.com

Well I bought it and must say, I really like driving it. Smooth, 14MPG around town, havent really hit the highway alot yet. No shimmy at 85. The balljoints are greaseable and he kept em greased at every oil change.
I've already got the bug to change some stuff on it. I told myself no but I can't help it. I'm gonna wait for the muffler to go (lookin iffy now) and do a magnaflow and a 3" tail. I'll probably do cold air too.
I'd actually like to do the basic 2" lift with the torsion bar crank and shackles....more about that in another post.
Thanks
Nick
