Default 2003 4WD DURANGO 5.9 Overheating Problem

Hello, I know you have heard alot from me regarding this issue, but since the last time i resolved the problem of overheating which was caused by the Radiator blockage..

Now, I started the motor and i went to my work, when i drove back i noticed the the check guages note on the Info. Center then the car was overheating till the H indicator, i thought this is a false alarm because the car didn't go in the sleeping mode so i kept driving for about 5 mins..then i stopped and waited for sometime, then i checked the coolant as the temp. didn't go down and kept on H, I found that the car has no coolant, i added water then i started the engine, it turned back to normal state at the first dash cuz im using 160 F stat, i found the leak which was from the hose connected the T-stat with the engine, for about two weeks now, the engine looses water and i have to add about 3-4 L. every 2 days, I'm pretty sure that there is no other leak from hoses, rad. wp, nothing all,cuz i inspected it many times.

facts: the engine oil is not milky or white, it's normal
when i add water i noticed white pupples and it was sweet cuz i tasted it to see what is it.

that's all i can provide you with, sorry for this long talk and looking forward to hearing from you.

thanks

i dont think i would taste water from my radiator.
if there is no visible water leak it sounds like a head gasket.

WW:

You may indeed now have a headgasket issue.

I would obtain a cooling system pressurization device, and apply some pressure to the system which will allow you to look for leaks.

If you are not seeing white smoke or fog from the tail pipe in any notable quantity, your gaskets may be intact.

In any case, when you get any type of overheating indication, pull over as soon as you can safely do it and investigate. Low/no oil pressure and overheating are the quickest ways to send an engine to the grave.

Thanks nim81, hope it's not the headgasket.

Hello Don, long time ago, first of all, thanks for your reply, second, thanks for the advice about pulling over, third, i see no smoke or fog from the tail pipe, and just last night before i wrote the original message, i went down to the car, then inspected every thing, i found the water I added before couple of hours is lost, so i started the car and turned on the AC, i went down the engine with a lamp and i checked everything, and after about one hour, i founded a leak from the Rad. bottom, i couldn't make sure from where exactly because i have to remove the fan cover.. so it's hopefully definately from there.

strange, because during the last week, whenever i come from a long way and stop the car, i open the engine to find out if there is any leak..but i saw nothing at all till last night..

i hope it's that leak only even though the radiator is around three months old. i bought it new from mopar...oh God, maybe the overheating broke it..seems so , right Don.

WW

WW:

Could be, or maybe you got a bad new radiator. These radiators of today are famous for leaking where the plastic tanks meet up with the aluminum core.

Whats worse, many times it won't leak when things are hot, but after things have cooled off for the night and contracted.

In any case, another radiator is mucho easier and cheaper than a head gasket.

Default you are totally right !

yes, it's cheaper, and I noticed exactly what you said, when i woke up and check the leak, sometimes i see it but when it's hot i see nothing...that's also a bad thing but better than a new headgasket..

thanks for the help Don

Regards,

Ya, it could be the plastic coupler to the aluminum core framing which is a shoty design.

Replace the upper hose it you haven't replaced it yet because you stated it was leaking.
