Engine REVS high at start
I have an 01 Durango with the small V8, 4.7 and it just recently started revving high at cold start. It just revs for a few seconds then goes to normal idle. This seemed to coincide with changing to synthetic oil and park it outside. Currently at 86000 miles and everything else is great with this vehicle. I tried disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes to reset the computer but that didn't help at all.

I was having a similar issue, along with the rpms jumping 2-300 up and down as I went down the hwy with the cruise control on.
The solution is a new TPS. It attaches to your throttle body on the driver side with two torx bolts.
Auto Zone has them for $39.00 + tax. You will be looking for a Wells TPS333.
They give you new screws, and two different gaskets with it. I used the O ring and other than dropping a screw, the install was quick and easy.
