OMG!!!! That is horrible. I know the feeling, I thought I was the only one in the world that could ever have had this problem. I had the exact same mess with my passenger side door. The locking mechanism was going out so I decided to replace it. Long story short I was staring at the same problem you have before your own eyes. First things first you have the door panel off corret? If so my only suggestion is if your case is like mine, you don't want to take it to a dealership or bodyshop to have it cost you an arm and leg to fix this. Then if so you are going to have to use what ever your avalibility is to literally beat the crap out of that locking mechanism untill it falls into tiny peices, if you have a dremel tool avalible it would make life alot easier. The locking mechanism is metal and plastic. What I did was use duct tape to hold my window up as I carried out the plan. This is a mess and you may not want to do this but I did it by taking the glass out of the support and then taking the support out of the door. Then disconnected the linkages to the door handles and proceeded to clear the way to total destruction on the assembly. Those are minor disassemblies compared to whats ahead. Then I pryed the thin sheet metal back so I could fit my arms back there and my little dremel tool (keep in mind this is all behind the door panel so any and most of all cosmetic damages, scratches, etc will be covered back up by the panel itself. Just remeber the sheet metal I pryed back was closest to me. The sheet metal furthest is the actual door. Any firm pressure against this could result in visual cosmetic damages from the exterior view. It was never in my way) Then I proceeded to just beat and cut untill the mechanism just had nothing left to lock the door, also I would have another locking assembly on standby ready to go in as the old one is completley useless. You can pick this part up at your local Dodge dealership for around 30-40 bucks not bad for the headache that this door caused. If you do not have another one ready you will have no way to shut the door back and it hold itself tight for drivability(I also ran into that issue, the dealership I got mine from had to order it, and my Durango was my only means of commuting. But zip ties work nice). The install turned out well the new assembly included all new hardware my door opens and shuts beautifully..lol I never thought I would feel so grateful for such a simple task. Well thats all I have to say about that, hope all goes well. Good Luck and further questions just post, and after your headache has cleared. Please I would like to hear how you done it and how it went. P.S Remeber in any automotive sistuation its always better to have an extra set of hands that are useful in rotating out the beating your going to give that damn locking mechanism.
