i dont know exactly what the problem is, but if you disconect the brake light switch at the pedal you can shift it out of park, i think its the brake light switch at the pedal that causes the problems, but if you unplug it, shift to nuetral (w/ the parking break on . .. ) plug it back in (so that you have brake lights) then you can start the tuck and go on your way, this would solve the problem for a while for me then it would come back, idk what the issue was but it hasnt happened yet this year

Are you parked level with no load/bind on the system? Push the D forward or back and see if that changes anything. If so, you have/had a load.

When parking up or down hill remember to use the parking brake to keep the truck from rolling and putting pressure on the gears. This will keep the pressure off the gearing and the transmission.

I had this issue recently (like a few days ago) and fixed it yesterday. My problem was not the brake light switch, my problem was the lock mechanism that keeps the shifter from getting out of park was slowly sticking. If you take the little rubber "boot" off the base of the shifter, you can see the mechanism that controls things there. You should also see the little lock that is preventing the shifter from moving back. That lock is tied to a little piece that moves forward a back and mine was moving SLOWLY or not at all.

Once I saw the friction points, I got out some WD40. With some well placed shots of WD40 and a little manual work of moving the lock back and forth, it cleared the issue right up. I think just some dirt or dust or whatever got in there and just slowed things down. Now it fires unlock like a champ. BTW - this safety measure unlocks when the key is put in the power setting...this is not the one for the brake. So, you should see it shoot back as soon as the key is turned forward.
