Default 2001 D shifts hard out of 1st gear when cold

Hello!

I've recently been having an odd problem, When the truck is cold it shifts hard going between 1st and 2nd. (loud thump)

This only occurs the first couple times when the truck is cold and once it warms up its fine.

Now im hoping this isn't going to be a big deal.. but with my luck im sure it will be Oh, also, when I took it to the dealership for a recall fix on the shift lock the basic fluid check looked good. The trans fluid looked fairly new. (I just purchased the truck a couple weeks ago)

The truck is a 2001 4.7L 4X4

JMOD:

How many miles in the D?? Which engine do you have?

Trans should be serviced every 30-40k with factory ATF+4 fluid. Just a drain and refill, no flushes.

If you have the 5.9 motor, your 46re trans also needs band adjustments when serviced.

If you have the 4.7, there are no adjustments. Could be a bad TPS or failing sensor on the trans.

65000 miles on it now and its a 4.7L. Oddly enough this didn't start until I took the truck in for a tune up and fuel induction cleaning.. Could that have caused anything like this?

Might be the tps or throttle position sensor=maybe the tech unplugged it or wacked it while doin the throttle body cleaning=I think that usually throws a code if it's bad though.

4.7L trany does not have bands.

Take it to a GOOD trany repair shop and have it fully serviced.

Well, going out on a limb I replaced the TPS. Seems to be running alot better. I think im going to get the Tranny serviced anyhow though. Would the dealership be a good enough place to take it or should I find someplace else?

I run the hell away from A-A-MCO<the worst tranny shops I ever dealt with.Try the better business bureay=look for a trans shop that has no complaints against them and if ya goina deal with a dealership=check for complaints against them then get the best price. One other thing.did you check the trans fluid level with the shift selector in nuetral and after you drove it about 5 miles?Ihave a 99 d and you have to check the fluid in neutral after it's warmed up or you get a high reading even when it's low-and the vehicle has to be running so use the parkin brake.
