98 durrango what transmission I have???
You have a 44RE
42RE will work
46RE will work
Need to make sure you check on the years
98-2000 is your best options although some later years will work up to 2003 (if I remember correctly) just need to get a park/neutral switch adapter ($15-20)
Another thing is there is a difference between a 4x4 transmission and a 2WD, that being the output shaft (OD units) You can swap them pretty easy, just make sure the output shaft you are putting on is a good working unit.
You can find out that information here with my output shaft swap

i would not bet on the 44re being the correct answer, but it should be listed in your glove box (i think that is listed) and if ont, just call a dealer and request a build sheet on it, and ask specifically about the transmission, it SHOULD be the 44, or 46, the 42 was used behind the 3.9 V6, which wasnt offered int hese trucks(at least that im aware of )
Tell me what other option is there from the factory that was installed on a 5.2L other then a 42RE or a 44RE??? Sure would not be a 46RE from the factory because those came with a 5.9L, sure would not be a 45RFE because those cam from the factory with the 4.7L engine (and now hemi)
Only two are the 44RE and 42RE

I have heard of the 98 5.2L having 42RE installed from the factory (on the 2wd) but never heard of a 46RE installed on a 5.2L from the factory
99% he has a 44RE other 1% 42RE (from the factory)
