2000 Durango remanufactured engine problem!
I just finished Replacing my 4.7 engine which had a spun bearing with a re manufactured engine. Before I did the swap I looked at the crank ring and it has 16 teeth like my original engine. I looked at the timing and when the crank was at the indicated TDC on the exhaust stroke the cams where both lined yo with "V8" at 12 O'clock.
I installed the new long block engine using all the original sensors except for the crank position sensor. I broke the original crank position sensor trying to remove it from the original block. I purchased a new from the dealership.
Once the install was completed I double checked everything and tried to start it. Every time I crank it, it sputters a bit. Almost like it is trying to start on one or two cylinders. I pulled the plugs and could smell fuel on them. 6 of the 8 still looked brand new while two had a little black on them. I determined that it was trying to start on only two cylinders. I placed the spark plug from one of the ones that was still clean against the engine to watch to see if it sparked. My wife cranked the engine and I saw it spark on the first engine rotation but it never sparked again after that.
I check the fuel rail for fuel by pressing on the fuel relief port. Fuel did come out. I connected my code reader and I don't get a code while cranking.
I'm know there is fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Compression is good. I check it at they were all around 120psi. I'm pretty sure spark is controlled by using the cam position as feedback. So I'm kind of leaning towards purchasing a new cam position sensor.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
