Default Normal noises for a 2003 RT

Good Day!

A few months back I posted about the truck stalling out when I slowed down. That problem is solved, but now that it is nice outside and the snow has melted, I am hearing noises that I didn't hear in the winter. I guess the point of this post is to determine what are normal noises to hear, and which ones should a person watch out for.

The first big one seems to be in the front end. I notice when I start from a dead stop, I hear a high pitched whine from the front. I also hear it when I steer left/right while stopped. This being said I am guessing it is the steering pump working a little harder because of the AWD on bare concrete. So I guess the big question here, is that normal to hear upon accelaration/steering?

The second question comes about in the rear of the truck. When I am at low speed either going forward, or reverse, and the wheels are turned to the left/right, there is a noise that comes from the rear hubs. I was told by someone this is normal (something about slip diff hubs? please correct me...I know I am wrong). The noise doesn't sound mechanical (metal on metal), but more of a THUD. Hope someone can answer this one as well.

Lastly, is the electric fan supposed to run really loudly? When I switch on the A/C, and the fan comes on, it is really loud, not only in the vehicle, but when you are outside as well. It sounds like an airplane is about to take off.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Druzzer,

Front end issues especially after winter season is over, it may be the sway bar bushings drying out and needs replacement. The thud you hear is problaby the AWD disenaging/reengaging, this happens to my D when travelling slow speed and coming to stop, somethings the transfer case will thud on me. The thud is more apparent to me now since I had my tranny rebuilt. Time to change all my fluids on transfer case and tranny since my 5k miles driving on rebuilt to get rid of any rebuild materials inside the tranny.

As far as the A/c goes, the fan will make some noise but noise should be normal type fan noise when active. But noise should not be loud enough to drown out any normal noise from engine. Check to make sure the fan noise is not the clutch fan. It may be possible with the A/C on, the temperature starts to rise on your engine and cause the clutch fan to stay engage to attempt to cool down, thus, making the big fan roar.

Check all fluids and you are probably up on your mileage so if you haven't done a full service on the Trany, transfer case, and differentials you might be wanting to do so.
