Default 98 dodge durango serpentine belt adj

It looks like the ribbed pully is where you adj the tension. Do you loosen the nut behind the bracket holding the pully. It looks like it's difficult to get to and the ignition module is blocking access. I don't want to mess something up. Any help is appreciated.

There is nothing to remove and changing the belt is TOOL-LESS. To remove the belt, you simply move the flex pulley towards the center with a tire iron/large screwdriver/pipe. Check the service manual or a Chilton book at the parts store for pix, etc.

Go back on with a new belt, the Goodyear GatorBack.

5.9L GaterBack is $29 IIRC. Just bought one last month. The old Gatorback at 4 years old was fine. I was replacing the alternator and since I had it off, decided to go back on with a new one. No sense on replacing with a used one.

The pattern on the Gatorback is very good for wear. Should be part #4070975 for the 5.9L.

Whatever you do, I strongly discourage getting GOODYEAR G/B at a GOODYEAR dealer. I priced one out when I was working the water pump. $95 for a 4.7 GATORBACK.

With that price you might think that it is a specialized not available anywhere else right?.........WRONG.! Available at A/Z and after the $95 is swiped on your credit card, they tell you that is takes 72 hours for it to come from the warehouse. Yes A GOODYEAR dealer does not carry a GOODYEAR PART in a major metro area.

Of course I am not bitter (LOL!!), their loss of business. I warn you of this from my area, of course your experience may differ and I hope it is better but be prepared.

Good Luck!!!!

Hydra, I will count this as my +2 for recommending to you. Remember I am speaking for the 4.7 but if Indy D says it works on the 5.9 then take that recommendation strongly. As he said in another post, 200K+ miles can't be wrong (not exact quote but you get the idea!!)

Just get your Gatorback belt at Autozone. No issues and no gauging.
