Frame damage
OK, I've got a 99 5.2L Durango, 2WD that got hit on the left front corner a few weeks ago. The insurance folks have determined that the car is a total loss. The problem is about an 8" section of the fwd corner of the frame has been rolled in.... but only the outer part, not even the entire frame tube... The rest of the frame appears fine, the car drives exactly as it did before the accident, and when viewed from the rear on the highway, it tracks straight and true.
So.... has anyone out there messed with repairs to the frame on these vehicles? I've been told that is should work by a couple of places (dodge dealer included), but anyone associated with the insurance industry won't make any repairs to the frame... only replace sections (not available) or the entire frame... thus the total loss.
So I see 3 options here:
1) Take the money ($11k)and begin shopping for a replacement.
2) Take the lower amount (less salvage value is about $9k) and sell the car with a salvage title.
3) Take the lower amount, get the car fixed ($3k estimate) and keep it.
Opinions???
