So i checked the PS fluid and I'm down to the add mark. So I look in the old owners manual just to check the fluid type and I was floored..... It says to use Mopar Power Steering Fluid.......WTF?....... Theres no type, no numbers, nothing??????
Headin to the dealer ship....![Icon Doh](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_doh.gif)
Well I get there to the parts counter and ask......WTF?![Icon Shrug](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_shrug.gif)
No problem he says. The parts guy asks what type?....... Brown or Red?
Again I say....WTF
He says lets see as he looks into the computer.
Again, I say...........WTF......is the Brown?
He says it's an older PS fluid.
Computer comes back and says mines the Brown......![Icon Shrug](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_shrug.gif)
He only has 2 quarts and I told them I'll take em.... $8.15 a quart!....![Icon Omg](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_omg.gif)
Well get home and vacuum the fluid out of the reservior, fill, run, vacuum, fill, run, check and top off. Got a nice change out with a double vacuum and fill. Fact that the Steering box and cooler is full of fluid is the reason I did the vacuum and re-install of the fluid. Capasity after install was about 3/5 th of a quart. I still have 1/2 a quart left for top off.
Well the fluid pulled out was nasty dark brown. the second vacuum was darker brown. The new fluid was almost clear so making the fluid changed out looked worse than it really was using the new fluid. I never seen this fuid before? Fluid part number is # MS-5931 Mopar Power Steering Fluid which is the Brown type or lets say the type that turns Brown after breakdown.
In looking at the back of this bottle it says use in later 1998 models and 2004 and later Jeep Cherokee......
Just another rant post!

FYI - all brake fluid I've ever seen is clear but no not Mopar - it's tan/gold color.
