Whenever I stop or start or go over a speedbump I get a knock sound in the steering column. Took it to the dealer and had the front end checked out. No problem with the shocks or ball joints. They suggested a new steering column for $1100.00 (parts cost alone) plus three hours labor on top.

Anyone have any ideas?

It's a 1998 Durango with 60,000 miles.
