Default Spare Tire Help

Well the spare tire bandit has hit my 02 Durango and taken along the cord/wire with it. Now my questions is can i replace the wire myself or do i have to take it to a dealership? Im average in the handy department and am not mechanically challenged. Also is there any aftermarket part suppliers for that? And finally would an original factory rim fit in the holder that props it up. Im pretty new to the Durango site since i have a Ram and im learning as i go with the Durango (transmission) but so far so good as a Ram. Thanx for the help

I think the cord is all part of the lowering mechanism.

as far as i know, indy is correct in that you need to replace the entire mechanism in order to get a new cable in, IMO just stop at a junkyard and pull one off a wrecked D and go from there

well having a friend that knows people that steal spare tires the reasoning is they arent drawing that much attention. Worst of all the spare was new, and we assume it was taken from the cubs game we attended...i found a replacement about 75.00 ive had no luck at the junkyards
