Default trans speed sensor

I'm going to replace the speed sensor on my 98 Durango. It has the 5.2 engine. My check engine light came on and indicated it was bad. Do you lose a lot of trans fluid when you remove the old one?

not a lot, but a little. put down a rag. have the new one ready, and when you unscrew the old one then put the new one in quick. its not a flood, more like 1/4 cup or so.

Default trans speed sensor

Kev2 wanted to know what code I got on the check engine light. I don't have the code that AZ found when they checked it but on their printout it list the possible cause as "Failed output shaft speed sensor". I had already replaced the sensor in the diff so the only other trans speed sensor screws into the trans. So I'm guessing it's the one causing the problem.

Should be the transmission output sensor located on the drivers side in the middle of the transmission. I like to get them from the dealer.

Just a heads up. A LOT of fluid came out but I put the new sensor in right away and only lost a little.
