Default 2000 durango starts and dies

My 2000 Durango has been running fine until last night. I got in and started it, it kicked off, and then died. I can start it and give it gas and it will continue to run, but smells rich and if i let off the gas, it dies. What gives?

I am guessing a 4.7?

simple things first...
Is the CEL on? try to get codes anyway, easy key trick should work.
Vehicle is STOCK, no remote or aftermarket alarm?
Any dead/discharged battery issue?

somethings to get started Without above info:
TRY starting and holding throttle @1000rpm for several min and slowly relaesing to idle....

Thinking TPS but cannot just guess.

Default durango wont stay running

I just want to piggy back off kev it shounds like tps to me but by keeping the idle at 1000 rpm it will relearn idle thats what he is having you do. I have also seen the coolant temp sensor do that to the dakota and durango. I also suggest keeping the idle up and getting it normal operating temp and see if it stays running. if it does maybe coolant temp sensor. Good luck!

X2 for kev and guy. I've had that problem a few times. Keep the throttle up and drive for a bit. It should take care of the problem.

I just got done with that problem, myn was my SKIM, (Security Kill Ignition Moduale). I used a spare key and it locked my fuel pump. So I reset it, by disconnecting my batt. and depressing my brake for 1min. And it worked perfect, but if thats not it, it is probably what they said ^^^^^^.
