Inconsistent idle, now check engine light
Hey all, I need a little help before I decide to take my Dodge to the repair shop. My truck has been running well, but sometimes, pretty rarely, once or twice a week, usually in the morning, it hasn't idled real smooth when I first start it. I've assumed it was partially due to the fact my driveway is somewhat steep, and maybe there was little air or something in the fuel line or pump, cause it usually goes away after I let the rpm's go up for awhile. Anyway, recently, the thing seems to run real inconsistent when I start it, bounces between 5-700 rpms, and won't really idle unless I continue to give it a little gas to keep it running. Engine seems smooth though once it climbs past the 1K rpm range and on. Engine is also fine while I'm driving, smooth as a can be, actually. However, just yesterday, the check engine light has come on, and it really seems to struggle more to idle, even after driving a it for awhile. Any quick suggestions, hopefully a TPS sensor or something simple like that? Thanks in advance for any help. Oh, and by the way, 99 Durango, 5.9L, 4WD.
Well, I removed the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) and checked it to the best of my ability, cleaned it off pretty much, re-installed it and made sure everything was tight. I'll get back and let you all know if that did the trick.
