Default 2000 D SLT, 5.9L, 108,000 - New Vibration

Just found your forum today. Great threads and good advice. I could use a little help on a new vibration.

First noticed at highway cruise and it does the same at idle. I felt vibe in steering wheel and put hand on dash and felt it even more. When I got home I opened hood and felt it shaking radiator frame most.

Turned A/C off and vibe went away. A/C on again and vibe was back.

Next, unpluged A/C solenoid and tried A/C switch in on and off positions. Still had vibe when electric fan behind radiator came on. A/C compressor clutch not engaged.

I'm guessing this is probably the electric fan causing the vibe. Any thoughts and/or suggestions?

I have a Hayne's Manual, but not many pics of what I need to see to r/r the fan if that is what the problem is. Any idea where to get pics and training aids an old retired helicopter pilot with basic mechanical ability could use?

Thanks for your time.

Have you checked to see if maybe one of your fan blades has been damaged or has broken off? That would surely cause an imbalance.

Here is a small write up. It's pretty easy to do in fact. You can get a new replacement from you auto parts store.

Facory, thanks you may be right. I'll have to check out the condition of the blades. Seems like that's about all that would unbalance it that much.

Hydrashocker, I appreciate the "how to" article. Will get the fan out and take it to Auto Zone or O'Reilly's for a replacement.

No problem. They are very easy so don't worry. I wish I could have found pictures.
