Unhappy HELP! Torsion bars? Springs? What do I do?

Hello! I bought a 1999 Durango in the Fall of 2007. I have been having some horrible front end problems since I bought it. My Dakota before that had problems too. I had the Durango inspected before I bought it and got the go ahead. Two months later, when I went in to have it re-aligned, I was informed that I needed new ball joints. Okay. Paid $500.

Almost two years later, I noticed that my car was pulling to the left and right again. Another alignment I thought. Yeah, right. When I took it in to have it realigned, I was told that it wasn't my alignment - I need two new torsion bars for the front end. They told me that each bar would cost me $330 and would have to be specially ordered from the dealer. I called another mechanic to get a quote and they said they think the 1999 Durango has springs instead of torsion bars. The Dodge dealership quoted me $450. Not gonna happen.

I just want to make sure that I'm not getting ripped off. I trust this mechanic, but the price seems too high for just one torsion bar. Am I incorrect? Is $330 per bar about right? Do I even have torsion bars on my Durango? Does anyone have an idea on where I could get the torsion bars for less than $330? I would really appreciate any help or advice that any Durango enthusiast might have. I looked all over the internet, and no one seems to have stock torsion bars - the only torsion bars out there are for lifting the Durango. I'm pretty novice when it comes to cars, and I don't know where to get the parts. Thanks in advance for your help! I'm all ears!

Yeah, thought about that right after I posted. It's a V8 - 99% sure it's a 5.9 liter. And yes, it is a 4x4.

You have 2 torsion bars on the front end. Unless they are fully cranked up then you must replace them but the only way that would happen is if you had a torsion lift or someone installed a snow plow on the front of it compressing the torsion bars. Most likely this is not correct and you need to find out if the torsion bars are fully7 extended. You do not have regular springs. If you look under the cab you will see 1 bar coming back on each side (under frame) that attaches under the drivers and passenger seats. Here is some info on T/S lifts:
