Default Durango A/C Testing

I have a 2000 durango that the AC went out on completely. When I hit the AC switch the clutch isnt spinning off the compressor. Is there an easy way to test if the issue is the compressor/clutch or the evaporator or any other A/C component? I'd like to try and do this myself to cut costs if possible.

Thanks
Jim

Hi sporty, welcome to the site. Have you checked your a/c relay? It's located in the engine bay near the battery. Here's a pic of it from my 01.

Here's another one. The PDC is located near the battery.

Here's a schematic of the PDC.

The schematic is pretty much self-explainetary. But it's the second one from the top right corner located at the cluster of relays in the upper right hand corner.

If that doesn't work, you can try this:

It's the DIY section look under a/c.

You may want to buy a freon hose and connected it to your system to make sure there is enough freon. If the freon all leaked out, there is a low pressure safety switch that will prevent the compressor from coming on if freon is low or completely out.
