How the hell is it totaled?, id drive it like it is, to me a vehicle is not totaled unless its blown up or is completely unreparible and wont run, who cares if it looks like sh*t, just use as a serious off roader then or something else and lets see some pics,

It is totaled because the cost to repair is greater than the value of the auto. It has nothing to do with drivability or not. That is a common misconception. Usually if the insurance company 'totals' a car you can buy it back from them for scrap at for 5 or 10%. They don't want the car, just have to pay what they are obligated to pay. You then get a salvaged title and fix/still drive. You may not get full coverage again on the vehicle. You may pay for full coverage but total it again and watch how loud they laugh at you for paying for nothing and honestly trying that trick.

Ya indy explained it very well there.. simply would cost near what the value of the truck would sell for, that mean totaled. once settled try to by it back and fix it yourself.. i knoe i would... $1500 cheap paintjob and a week or two afterwork feeling/pulling dings

Thanks for all the great input. I spent Awhile on the phone today I gave my Insurance lady and the guy that owns it an ear full. Told them that they were nuts if they thought I was settling for that amount.

I have my House, RV, ATV, my Durnago and the wifes Blazer all with them and I would pull it all away from them in a heart beat

Anyway the adjuster that came out to look over the Durango the first time called he was pretty upset with the big boys he said with ALLIED insurance there are different levels of car quality and he said he told them mine was the top tier. He said when he found out what they offered me he send an email out to the lady I talked to. He said Allied subs out the dirty work to a 3rd party and it is getting to be a real pain in the butt to work with them He wanted to come over and take more pictures.

He came back over and took more pictures of the interior and the engine compartment. He noticed I had a cold air intake on it and said get it off of there they are not giving you anything for it and I have the old housing anyway.

Said he is going to get me at least $1000 more on the offer if not more he said he is sick and tired of the people that ALLIED is using that are sub contractors doing the dirty work.

I had thought about just buying it back and keeping it for my boy he just turned 14 and he kind of wants him and me to get a project for his first car. But they told me that it would cost me $4000 to buy it back. The day the adjuster was here the first time we were talking and he said he thought $1500 to 1750 to by it back he went a little postal when I told him that. The way it sounds is Allied used to let their adjusters in the field take care of the claims from start to finish, but they were giving to good of deals and costing ALLIED a couple of $$$$

I got pictures of the damage When I get down to the desktop I will post them someone wanted to see what GOLFBALL sized hail and 70 mph wind will do to a DURANGO.

Thanks again everyone for all the idea's it helps when you ask people that have been there and done that.

BTW I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 4 door Big Horn Edition with the 5.7 HEMI sitting in may driveway tonight. Not mine yet told them I needed to sleep on it but I think it is going to get a home here

Chewing out your Agent and their staff may make it seem better, but it isn't nor necessary. Your beef is with the adjuster and the claims group. Rarely are those one in the same in today's day and age. You Agent is 90% helpless in relationship to claims 'disagreements'.

50% to buyback the totaled vehicle? Never heard of that before. Ridiculous. It is usually 5-10%. My guess is they are wrong on that too. More reasons to avoid companies such as Allied and to stick with major, trusted and proven carriers. Good luck.

You can get a great paint job for less than $99. Roll it yourself.

Well I guess my words that I typed were a little strong I guess I should have said I told my agent how it is. My Dad taught me when I was just a kid getting my first car that you can have the best insurance in the world but if you have an agent that wont go to bat for you, you had better be finding another agent when I first called my agent they tried to tell me that was all they could do, their hand were tied and they could do nothing to help me.

I explained to them that as my agent they work for me and they needed to step up to the plate and get it worked out that is why I choose them to me my agent in the first place.

Ouch. Take the $$$.

Your dad (and you) don't understand MODERN insurance. As few as 10 years ago, YES INDEED your Agent had a say so in your claim. Not so much today. That is all handled at the claims level. Agents are there to help you on their end of the job... renewals, getting your discounts, payments, etc. Once insurance companies... as ALL larger companies did... went to specialization and dedicated departments to address specific issues, the Agent lost most of the ability to do a whole hell of a lot when it comes to a claim. They are an additional voice in your favor, but a very tiny one. As the years go by, that voice will be eliminated. Change happens. So did your insurance coverage and they way it is handled, whether you knew it or not.

Take the money. She's done. Those dents on the roof line... done. Don't waste time trying to repair. You could just drive it as is once the glass areas are repaired.
