Default 99 Durango a/c do I need a vacuum to refill

I have a a/c leak on my 99 Durango. I use a light to find the leak. It look like it is a couple of o-rings. I got new ones. Do I have to have a vacuum to refill.

Thanks

It would be a good idea to have your a/c system vacuumed and filled at a shop. You need to make sure there isn't any water or contaminants in the system. HTH.

I have had mine to the 'dealer' twice for A/C low performance. I was about to take it in again. Due to a rude service manager I walked out and proceeded to an independent shop near my home. They found that the dealer had actually overfilled the system which will also cause poor cooling. He completely vacuumed the system to get all refrigerent AND air out. Then refilled to the proper lever including the addition of the oil that keeps the compressor lubricated. My A/C has never worked as well as it does now. His cost for all of this - $40. The dealer had charged me over $150 each time his 'golden angles' laid their grimey hands on it. Lesson learned. I no longer patronize this stealer. In fact, I now order any parts I need from a dealer up in the NE at a much lower cost, including his shipping. Another lesson learned. Now I'm a happy guy.

I stay away from the dealer unlesss it is under warranty. I have noticed in the six years of owning two Durangos, they are not the best in the a/c department,

You cannot blame all dealers are bad. There are just as many if not more private stealers out there! Problem is, if they screw up your car, it's not easy to sue them and get any money back as they may just file belly up and you get nothing. At least if you sue a dealer for screwing it up, you got better chances of recouping your money if you got a strong case.

Crappy thing for me, the last two Chrysler dealers I went thru, I have to give them triple A+ for honest worksmanship and going the extra mile to help out without additional fees. Now both of them have been shut down. I have to go to a 3rd dealer that just opened up way south of where I live. I hope they will give me the same kind of service as my previous 2 dealers when I need service on my durango.

But my past dealings, I got shafted by the mom and pop shops or the little guys that wants to play with the big guys and don't have the ***** to back it up.

Bottom line, whether mom/pop/friend shop or dealer, do your homework and lots of background check before you decide to let them service your vehicle.
