Unhappy Major Tranny issue, Please help.

I have a 2001 Durango that until today has never had any transmission problems. I inadvertantly drove over a concrete parking stop block, but did not make contact with any part of the vehicle other than the tires. Tried to put the Durango into 4wd to back off the block and suddenly will not move forward or backward. Park still engages, but no gears available. There is now a whineing noise when engine is started and I hear the clicking associated with the moving of gears in the transfer case when switched between 4wd and 2wd. With the exception of park, vehicle seems to be in neutral. If the transfer is lodged between gears would park still work? Not very familiar with electrically switched transfers. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated as I dont know where to start to look for this problem. Also, when the engine is shut off there is a winding down sound that was never there before.

yes it still would go into park if tranfer case is in nuetral.. Sounds like you need may have the transfer case stuck where it is not all the way engaged. You may need a new motor (transfer case). I would not drive it much like that becuase may do some serious damge to it.

This may sound foolish, but there was three settings on my 2003 Durango: 2wd, 4High, and 4Low. I accidently put it in 4Low and it would not move as it is for extreme towing and traction. Switched it to 4High and moved with no problem....
I probaly just added to your problem,
FF

Turn off the motor and place it into park. Start motor. If there is a problem then it's the transmission. If no problem then it's the transfer case.

Sounds like the transfer case is in between gearing for some reason either electronic control module or chain. Considering everything was fine until you switched the transfer case then I'm pointing to the transfer case.
