So what was the out come with your engine, I see this is a fairly old post but if you didnt figure this out, the missing piece in your picture is just a rubber cap. nothing is hooked there.

Default problem solved

It was bad spark plugs and the connecting wireing harness. Had to replace both but runs much better now.
